Bradford local election results: Labour loses control of council

Bradford is likely to be the last Yorkshire council to announce its result - with the local election declaration expected on Saturday.

Labour has been in charge of Bradford City Council since 2010 and Susan Hinchcliffe has been leader since 2016, however that is all expected to change in the coming days.

How exactly the council will be governed afterwards, no one is sure - however it will almost certainly change to no overall control.

Despite the success of the City of Culture, controversies around council tax rises and the spectre of grooming gangs has weighed heavily on Labour, and the party will likely lose swathes of seats.

The Greens, pro-Gaza independents and Reform are likely to pick up seats around the city, with the Tories expected to hold onto councillors in the rural areas.

Voters will have to wait until Saturday evening to find out the results, and negotatiations about forming an administration could go on longer.

UPDATE MAY 10:

Labour lost overall control of the council.

Reform UK took 29 seats including the council leader, Susan Hinchcliffe.

Turnout was slightly more than 40%.

Susan Hinchcliffe had been leader of the council for more than a decade.
