Council tax payers face 2pc rise

COUNCIL tax payers in Calderdale face a two per cent rise in their bills this year as the authority looks to make cuts of £21.6m by 2016.

Calderdale Council has set out a raft of ideas for bridging the
budget cap including raising charges for home support and changing staff terms and conditions.

The council is also investing an additional £2m in social care for children and creating a £2.5m fund aimed at helping kickstart the local economy.

Council leader Tim Swift said: “We do our very best to provide good services for local people within the budget we have and this is becoming more and more difficult.”
