Doncaster councillors reject pay rise

ALLOWANCES for Doncaster councillors are set to be frozen after the town’s Labour group said it would vote against a proposed increase.

Labour councillors, who hold an overwhelming majority, will propose members waive the planned 2.2 per cent increase in allwances for 2015 in a move that will save £20,000.

The authority is currently reducing its budget by around £109 million.

Labour group chairman Coun Sue Phillips said: “It would be inappropriate for Councillors to accept the pay rise this year, at the same time as being forced to implement millions in government cuts to the Council budget.”

The motion to freeze allowances will be debated at tomorrow’s full council meeting.
