Hundreds more jobs for Humber

CS Wind UK Ltd - which has manufacturing bases in Canada, Vietnam and China - will make the move on the back of funding from the Regional Growth Fund. It comes as it emerged Hull will be the home to the new national wind energy college, which aims to bridge the skills gap for would-be employees in the sector.

Coun Steve Brady said: “I am absolutely delighted that it looks like there’s going to be further investment in the Humber. I do think that the coming couple of years will see announcements that will bring hundreds if not thousands of jobs - certainly the supply chain will be huge.”

There’s long been speculation that the South Korean manufacturer was looking to build a factory at Paull, close to the docks in Hull where Siemens is developing a blade factory. But it is also understood to be considering the Able UK marine energy park in north Lincolnshire, which is to finally get underway, after overcoming its last legal challenge.

UK managing director Youngjae (David) Ryu said: “This grant will enable us to accelerate our investment plans and provide confidence to the industry that we want to deliver a long-term cost-competitive tower to serve the European offshore wind market.” East Riding councillor Mike Bryan said there would be benefits from a factory at Paull - but also inconvenience to residents if the factory operated around the clock and from extra traffic.
