The Lib Dem former energy and climate change secretary said America was the second largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world and added: “It means the rest of the world are going to have to work even harder, so that’s just wrong and irresponsible and against the science and the evidence.

“It’s really time that British politicians of all parties spoke out against what Mr Trump is doing. I know the Liberal Democrats are strongly against this and we want to speak up publicly against Mr Trump.”
