Ryedale Council’s planning committee is expected to formally register its opposition to the proposed fracking at Kirby Misperton at a meeting next week.

It had previously deferred a decision while it waited for Third Energy, the company behind the proposal, to provide more information.

The nature of the planning application means North Yorkshire County Council will have the final say but Ryedale Council has been consulted ahead of the decision which is expected in February.

A report to be considered by Ryedale councillors next week recommends members oppose the application on the grounds that “inadequate information” has been provided about the impact the company’s activities would have on “heritage assets” in the area.

It also questions the plans set out in the application for reducing the impact of noise generated on the site.

North Yorkshire County Council has asked Third Energy a number of questions about its proposals and Ryedale Council will request it is further consulted when the answers are received.
