YP Letters: Our national broadcasters should adopt '˜Brexit-free days'

From: Max Nottingham, St Faith's Street, Lincoln.
Theresa May wants a personal mandate for her Brexit strategy.Theresa May wants a personal mandate for her Brexit strategy.

I VOTED to leave in our referendum because many poorer people thought it would benefit them. Those who live longest will see if it does. That said, I am truly sick of the word Brexit. Should not national broadcasters be persuaded to have Brexit-free days?

We must keep tabs on Theresa May in case she does a U-turn during the negotiations. Politics is, by definition, a devious business. Especially at the top. We must not blame the poor dears who choose the profession. But voters must keep an eye on them.

CLEARLY the decision to hold the election is opportunistic. It is obviously based on the polls. We now have a second chance to vote on Europe but this time those who voted leave are open to persuasion about the risks of pursuing a hard Brexit and an exit from the single market. The lies told last time will not work again.

From: Ken Holmes, Cliffe Common, Selby.

THANK the Lord that we have a lady Prime Minister. If anyone doesn’t agree that women aren’t the mainstay of our country, may I suggest that they visit any supermarket in the country and see how many of our loved ones are sat in cars whilst husbands are doing the shopping.

From: Tim Mickleburgh, Boulevard Avenue, Grimsby.

WOULD Theresa May have called an election if her party wasn’t well ahead in the polls? As it is, we’re faced with months away from the real problems of this country while the Prime Minister indulges herself, despite having an overall majority and faced with a divided opposition.

From: Hilary Andrews, Nursery Lane, Leeds.

HOW dare Nicola Sturgeon say that Theresa May has called a snap general election for furthering her own agenda whilst the Scottish economy, NHS and education has been rapidly sliding into the mire?

MOST people have a loyalty to the UK and this is depicted on the new pound coin with the four plants which represent the UK’s four nations. With Nicola Surgeon’s desire to take Scotland out of this alliance, I hope the Royal Mint is getting David Pearce to redesign the “tails” side of the £1 coin with the thistle removed.
