YP Letters: Team GB has been a shining example to us all

AFTER all the negativity surrounding the Rio Games, how pleasant it has been to watch the flowering of a new generation of British athletes and Olympians.

These young men and women have personified qualities we might be forgiven for thinking were dying in a country enfeebled by political cynicism, flip-flopping politicians, a continual media circus, self-seeking celebrities and sportsmen who seem more concerned with their bank balances than scoring goals or amassing runs for the national teams (Tom Richmond, The Yorkshire Post, August 18).

Dedication, skill, patriotism, teamwork, respect for themselves and family and friends – Team GB have 
displayed all these and been
an inspiration and example.

I SINCERELY hope that Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, has noted what a winning combination Team GB has been at the Olympic Games in Rio.

When our island nation 
was under threat of 
invasion during the 20th 
century, Team GB was equally successful.
