Postmaster quit after office audit

A NORTH Yorkshire village post office is closed after the sub-postmaster resigned following an audit, his former bosses have revealed.

Residents of Catterick have been assured the service will be restored as soon as everything is sorted out to reopen the premises on the High Street.

Catterick Post Office shut temporarily on June 30 but the details were only made public yesterday. The decision followed "an audit and subsequent resignation of the sub post master", according to a statement.

Officials said Post Office Ltd is working hard to reopen the branch.

Field Change Adviser Gillian Alstead said: "We apologise for the inconvenience this temporary closure will undoubtedly cause but I can assure our customers that we are committed to maintaining a presence in the local community."

While the branch is closed, people are advised to use Brompton-on-Swale Post Office in Richmond Road, Walkerville Post Office in The Broadway, Scorton Post Office in High Row, or any branch of their choice.
