Protest over bed closures

CAMPAIGNERS angry about bed closures at a new £19m hospital will stage a demonstration outside it today to coincide with the publication of an inspection report.

Humber NHS Foundation Trust said it had agreed to temporarily cut Beverley Community Hospital’s capacity from 30 beds to 12 last week after an unannounced visit in June from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

George McManus, Labour’s Parliamentary spokesman for Beverley and Holderness, who will be taking part in the protest, called the closure of beds “an absolute scandal”.
