The aircraft, shot down off Kent 70 years ago, was finally lifted from its watery grave in the English Channel on Monday after previous attempts by the RAF Museum were called off because of the weather.

The grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) has allowed conservation work to start straight away. The Dornier will initially be placed in hydration tunnels and soaked in citric acid. It will eventually be displayed at the museum’s London site in the context of the Battle of Britain story.
