Residents evacuated and some treated for smoke effects following suspected arson attack

Nine people were evacuated from a block of flats and some were treated for smoke inhalation in what is thought to have been an arson attack in West Yorkshire.

The fire had started in an outbuilding, which was destroyed, but also caused damage to the flats on Hanover Street in Batley.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but is being treated as suspicious, said a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police.
