Residents '˜fortunate' to escape injury after gunshot fired at Rotherham house

Police have launched an appeal after a gunshot was fired through the window of a house in Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police was alerted to the incident after two residents at a house in Central Avenue reported what they believed to be the sound of two shots in the downstairs of the property on Thursday March 17 shortly before 11.15pm.

No-one was injured in the incident although a ground floor window was damaged.

Detective Constable Mary Glossop, the investigating officer, said: “This is being treated as a targeted incident and we have increased patrols in the local area.

“It is by sheer good fortune that no-one was injured in this incident and we need the public’s help to identify those responsible.

“If anyone was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, which they now believe may be linked to this incident, I would ask them to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 1263 of March 17.
