Revised planning timetable agreed

COUNCILLORS in Harrogate drawing up a planning blueprint to build thousands of new houses have backed a revised timetable.

Earlier this year councillors gave their backing to Harrogate Borough Council’s draft Local Plan, which sets out proposals for building homes in the district over the next 10 years.

Concerns were raised about the locations earmarked for development and the viability of the plan, under which 4,000 new homes would be built across the area between now and 2022.

Critics had said it represented the biggest encroachment on the district’s green spaces for decades, but it was agreed at an extraordinary meeting of the council.

However, the council also identified The Lido leisure park site, at Knaresborough, as a potential site for houses and is currently consulting on the plan. The final decision on whether the site will be included in the council’s draft plan will be made later this year.

Members of Harrogate Borough Council’s Cabinet (planning, transport and economic development) have agreed to publish the plan in May.
