Rogue drug batch fear after two die

POLICE are investigating a possible rogue batch of drugs after two people died.

A man and a woman in her 40s died after collapsing in Chesterton Road near Jesus Green, Cambridge, shortly after midday yesterday. A third person has been taken to hospital.

Police believe they had taken drugs and, although it is not known what substance was involved, the deaths are not thought to be the result of overdoses.

One line of inquiry is that a contaminated batch is circulating in the city, although the incident is not being linked to recent ecstasy-related deaths in Scotland.

Det Insp Billy Bremner said: “We are in the early stages of investigating these tragic deaths and are keeping an open mind as to the cause.

“We would urge anyone who has any information about the supply of drugs in the city to call police.

“We would always advise against taking any drug, however.”
