‘Rude’ paramedics face suspension

TWO paramedics from Yorkshire have been suspended for 12 months for making lewd comments to colleagues.

Andrew Rowley and Richard Senior, formerly based at Dewsbury’s ambulance station, were found by a conduct and competence committee of the Health and Care Professions Council to have behaved inappropriately towards colleagues.

Senior also made inappropriate comments in front of patients and failed to use blue lights and sirens when responding to emergencies. A mobile phone picture of him engaged in a sex act was also twice seen by a colleague, the panel sitting in Leeds said.

It was told Senior, a former representative with Club 18-30, boasted of his sexual conquests with colleagues and discussed his exploits with some female patients.

Rowley was found to have made inappropriate remarks and gestures to one colleague, telling another that she was “useless”, in behaviour described as “bullying and intimidatory”.

Both had denied misconduct.

But panel chairman Ian Griffiths said: “It shows a serious departure from the standards expected of a paramedic.

“They did not carry out their duties in a professional and ethical manner and their behaviour damaged the reputation of the profession in the eyes of the public.”

Both had received final written warnings for 12 months from Yorkshire Ambulance Service when it investigated in June 2013.

A spokesman said: “Their conduct was found to have fallen below the standards of professionalism expected of an employee of the trust.”
