Sea Cadets benefit from tea bag levy

A SEASIDE supermarket has helped local sea cadets to repair a leaking roof using a charity scheme that lets small retailers direct money to local causes.

The Mills store on Murray Street in Filey has already donated 1,000 to the town's Sea Cadets and the cash is going into an appeal to repair a leak at the unit's headquarters in Southdene.

The Mills Store has joined the "Make a Difference – Locally" charity initiative devised by the Nisa-Today's and Costcutter Supermarkets. It allocates some of the money spent on particular products to local causes chosen by store managers.

This month, for instance, 4p from each purchase of a particular brand of teabags will go to the charity for forwarding to local causes.

Mills store manager Les Welch said: "We are thrilled that we have been able to raise this money through our Making A Difference – Locally fund and donate it to such a worthwhile cause.

"The Cadets is a voluntary-run scheme and they have been undertaking lots of events to try and raise the money needed," added Les.

"We are thrilled to be able to help this local group."
