Search for man who approached child and said 'come here little boy'

Police are searching for a man following an incident involving a young boy after he got off a school bus.

The 13-year-old was approached by the passenger of a blue van at around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday) in Whitby Avenue, York.

The man, believed to be in his mid-20s, lent out of the window of the vehicle and said: "Come here little boy".

He didn't approach the van and police say they believe it to be an isolated incident.

They are now appealing for wintesses to the incident.

The man who approached the boy was wearing a grey tracksuit, and possibly a cap.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Although we believe this is an isolated incident our advice is to always remain vigilant and never get into a car with a stranger.

"We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask to speak to the York Serious Crime team.

"Please quote reference number 12170034483."
