The chain today announced it is to close another 80 stores - just days after announcing that 25 stores and 242 jobs were being cut as its problems continue.

The latest round of closures will see more than 1,000 jobs axed and the closures will be phased through next weekend from July 20-22.

The company has four outlets in Sheffield - Parkway, Heeley Park, Crystal Peaks and Fox Valley - but it is not clear which branch has been earmarked for closure.

Earlier this week, it was announced that one of the chain's three Doncaster branches would stop trading this Sunday.

The discount chain went into administration last month, putting more than 5,000 jobs at risk, after last-ditch attempts to strike a rescue deal failed.

Discussions are ongoing with various interested parties, with potential offers covering a number of stores and including the group's head office and distribution centre.

Clare Boardman, joint administrator, said: “Whilst we remain hopeful that a sale for part, or parts, of the business can still happen, it has not been possible to sell the business as a whole.

"We would like to thank all the employees for their continued support and commitment during this difficult time.

"We are keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen.”
