Sheffield declares ‘Vive la France’ and preserves Tour legacy

As part of the mission to preserve memories of the Grand Depart, the city council is rolling out a project across its roads.

A stone marker was installed at the finish line at Attercliffe Common, as well as a smaller stone marker at the beginning of the Midhopestones climb, to indicate where the peloton entered Sheffield.

Work has now begun on turning some of the street art produced by residents into permanent reminders of the cycling spectacle.

Phrases such as “Ey up TdF” and “It’s only pain” will be placed on each of the four King of the Mountain climbs in Sheffield as part of the Outdoor City scheme.

“This is just part of something very special we have here in Sheffield in terms of our relationship with the great outdoors,” said Coun Leigh Bramall, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for regeneration.

“As this project demonstrates, we are actively building on our reputation, rebranding Sheffield as the Outdoor City, and using this unique offer to bring in more business and tourism.”
