Six-year-old girl dies after being rescued from a harbour

A young girl has died after getting into difficulties in the water at a seaside town in Kent.

The six-year-old was pulled from the water at Margate Harbour on Saturday afternoon.

Two British children die in separate pool accidents on the same day in Spain and PortugalShe was rushed to hospital but could not be revived. The circumstances are not thought to be suspicious.

It is the latest in a spate of deaths in water during the hot summer.

A 15-year-old boy's body was found near Clacton Pier in Essex yesterday after he went missing on Thursday, while in Bedfordshire the body of a man in his 20s was recovered from the Great Ouse river after reports he had got into difficulty on Friday afternoon.

On Friday morning the body of a 17-year-old boy was found in a lagoon in Warwickshire after the alarm was raised the previous evening.
