Shelly Malone, of Aberdeen Street, was informed of the bizarre discovery by her postman, Steve Brook-Smith, who first thought it was a prank.
Mrs Malone told The Scarborough News it was a "weird" situation.

"I couldn't believe it.
"We are now just trying to stop it going into a drain. I don't know anyone around here who keeps snakes."
Mr Brook-Smith said he assumed the snake was toy.
He said: "I saw it and just thought 'oh it's a toy', like one of those fake ones that you can play pranks on people with.

"But then it started moving. It was a bit of a shock."
"It's easily about 3ft long."
The RSPCA have now removed the snake, believed to be a Corn Snake.
