Stamps mark survival struggle

The Royal Mail chose a West Yorkshire animal sanctuary for the launch of its latest set of special "Mammals" postage stamps.

They are the fourth in the Action for Species series and spotlight the struggle for some species to survive in a changing world, so the organisation chose Crystal Sanctuary Yorkshire Wildlife Rescue in Keighley for the launch of the series, featuring ten images.

Marianne Crowley, from the centre, said: "Hedgehogs are facing increasingly tough times and are struggling in today's society, so it is wonderful to see them recognised on Royal Mail's latest set of special stamps. They are such lovely and vulnerable creatures and we see first hand the difficulties they face. Each year we treat around 300 injured or sick animals."
