Store giant helps to fund police 'pod'

POLICE are joining forces with a Hull supermarket to provide shoppers with an express lane to justice.

Humberside Police has teamed up with Hull Council and the Hessle Road branch of Asda to create a new base for crime-fighting based near the store.

One of the first jobs of the mini-station, called a pod, was to allow police to carry out free cycle marking and registering cycles on www.immobilise.com. A crime reduction officer and the Riverside Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have also been using it to offer guidance on personal and property safety.

The pod can also be used for drop-in events, council surgeries and other community meetings.

Sgt Craig Nixon, from Riverside NPT, said yesterday: “This is an excellent example of partnership working delivering service for the public.

“By working with Asda and other partners we hope to provide other opportunities where we can offer crime prevention advice making Hull a safe and nicer place to live.”

The pod has been funded by the Asda chain with Hull Council providing funding for rental cost with the livery being completed by Humberside Police.
