‘Superman’ baptism

As he and his eight-year-old son Alex were baptised by full immersion at Holy Trinity Church, Hull, yesterday the pair wore matching caped outfits, his emblazoned with the letter C, for Christian.

Mr Butkus, 40, a drugs delivery driver for pharmacies, said he hoped it brightened up people’s day and added: “I know it is a bit unusual but it is about representing someone who made the world a better place.”

Pioneering minister the Rev Matt Woodcock said people enjoyed the reference “It’s a very joyful occasion and so that’s how it should be. I never thought when I got ordained that I’d be baptising Superman.”
