Supermarket evacuated

A SUPERMARKET in Yorkshire was evacuated yesterday after a security alert.

Widespread rush-hour traffic chaos resulted in the surrounding area after police were called to the Asda store in Handsworth, Sheffield, at about 3pm.

Staff and customers were evacuated from the store and Handsworth Road was closed.

Specialist teams then searched the premise. The all-clear was given after three hours.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed the incident had been resolved last night.
