Support call for trafficked children
Children thought to have been trafficked should be assigned an adult they trust to help them understand their rights, a report has recommended.
Too many children who are found to have been brought into England to be exploited are being left at risk of going missing from care because of variations in the quality of support they receive, the study found.
Some were being sent to adult prisons – for offences they committed while under the control of traffickers – with others put in immigration detention centres because of a failure to realise their status – or their age – the report by the Refugee Council and the Children’s Society said.
