Teenagers jailed over nightclub phone robbery

TWO teenagers who left a man with facial injuries as they robbed him of his mobile phone outside a nightclub have been sent to jail.

The victim was punched and kicked in the head during the incident outside the Cockpit, Leeds, in the early hours of August 12 last year.

Leeds Crown Court heard he was sat on the steps outside the venue when he was punched in the head by Matthew Ryan, 18.

His phone was taken from him and a group of men ran off. The victim chased after the group and caught up with Ryan in a bid to get his phone back.

During the struggle Ashley Napier, also 18, kicked the victim in the head.

Napier, of no fixed address, and Ryan, of Copperfields Crescent, East End Park, Leeds, pleaded guilty to robbery. Napier was sent to a young offenders’ institution for 18 months and Ryan for 16 months. Judge Geoffrey Marson, QC, said: “It was no doubt a very frightening experience.”
