Teens escape late-night arson attack

TWO teenagers managed to extinguish a blaze in a house after arsonists are thought to have targeted the property in a late-night attack.

North Yorkshire Police detectives said the two girls, who are in their late teens, were lucky to have escaped alive. A lit piece of paper was pushed through the letterbox of the house in Copper Beech Way in Colburn, near Catterick, at about 12.20am on Sunday before the teenagers were able to put out the fire, which caused damage to a curtain.

Detective Sergeant Angie Went, of Northallerton CID, said: “This was a very dangerous and malicious act which put the lives of two young people in extreme danger.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on the non-emergency number of 101.
