Theatre building takes a bow with latest accolade
Members liked the building’s easily accessible location, near the city’s new transport interchange, and the fact it had retained the feel of its well-loved old home on Spring Street. Hull Truck’s operations director Paul Marshall said: ‘We are delighted to receive this honour from Hull Civic Society. A great deal of thought and hard work went into the planning of this theatre and it is fantastic to see that reap rewards with accolades such as these.’
The building, which cost 15m, was designed by Wright & Wright. It features a 440-seat main auditorium, 134-seat studio theatre, an education facility and two foyer bars. The theatre has won other awards including RIBA’s building of the year White Rose award and the Brick award for best public building in Britain. Picture: Terry Carrott.
