About 4,000 women took on Race for Life’s annual 5k event, with a further 1,800 completing the 10k course on Saturday – all hoping to smash the fundraising target of £370,000 for Cancer Research UK. Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, friends and workmates strode out in fuchsia wigs, tutus, fairy wings and face paint.

Well-known faces among the crowd included Leeds actress Gaynor Faye, ITV Calendar journalist Gaynor Barnes and presenter Christine Talbot, who battled breast cancer last year. Nicki Embleton, from Cancer Research UK, said: “Yet again for Leeds we had an amazing day.”
