Three charged over New Year murder

Stephen Herbert died on New Year’s Day after he was violently attacked as he tried to break up a fight in the city.

The 34-year-old father-of-two was taken to hospital after the incident in the early hours but died a short time later.

Two men, 22-year-old Samuel Jordan and 21-year-old Soul Humphries were last night charged with murder, along with 23-year-old Tiffany Clark.

They were due to appear before magistrates in Hull today.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Baldwin, said: “The very nature of this unprovoked attack has left voids in the lives of the people who knew and loved Steven.”

He thanked the public for their response to appeals for information, but said they still wanted to hear from a taxi driver who picked up the suspects at around 6.05am from the junction of Strand Close and Beverley Road.
