Time-trial cyclist, 65, dies after hitting caravan

A CYCLIST who died while competing in an organised time trial on Good Friday may have ridden into the back of a caravan, police said.

The 65-year-old Selby man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which happened just after 10.40am on the A63 about three-quarters of a mile east of South Cave.

It is thought he rode into a white Sterling Eccles touring caravan being towed by a Land Rover Freelander, which was stationary at the time.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who saw the cyclist or caravan before the collision.

Officers have meanwhile also named a cyclist who died after a collision with a car in Hull on Easter Sunday.

Peter Finch, 46, was riding a red and black Raleigh around Derringham Bank roundabout near the junction of Willerby Road and Spring Bank West when he is thought to have collided with a black Renault Clio at about 4pm.

He suffered critical head injuries and died in hospital the following day.

The driver, a man aged 29, was arrested and interviewed by police and was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information about either incident can call 101.
