Toomey’s full comeback put on temporary hold
Two years on from suffering a fall at Perth which left him dead for six seconds, North Yorkshire-based Toomey made his long-awaited comeback aboard the Phil Kirby-trained Kings Grey at Southwell on Sunday.
The odds-on favourite failed to provide the 26-year-old, who spent 157 nights in hospital, with a fairytale return, however, eventually pulling up.

Hide AdKirby suggested Toomey could next ride one of his two entries in the Smith Cooper “Newcomers” Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Uttoxeter on Wednesday, but has only declared the unraced Improved and Adam Nicol has been booked for the mount.
Kirby said: “We’ve only the one running tomorrow now and Adam is going to ride.
“We have quite a few entries over the weekend, so we’re probably looking at that now (for Toomey).
“I’ll have a better idea in a couple of days.”
