Town masterplan under microscope

PEOPLE in Knottingley will get a chance to share their views on the town’s masterplan next week.

A public consultation will be held in Knottingley Sports Centre on February 5 between 4pm and 7pm. This follows a similar Five Towns event held in November.

Coun Graham Stokes, chairman of the Knottingley Steering Group said: “I’m pleased to see this moving ahead and look forward to hearing the views of the Knottingley community. It’s important they are part of the process and help us identify all the key issues and priorities for their area.

“The information we have gathered so far, and that we will gather next week, should help to put together a masterplan which benefits everyone.”

Wakefield Council is seeking cash to appoint consultants who will prepare the masterplan to move town regeneration forward. Information from the consultation will be included in their brief.

Coun Denise Jeffery, cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration, said: “We have been driving renaissance in the Five Towns forward in recent years – there has been significant regeneration in Castleford, alongside masterplanning for Pontefract and Featherstone.”
