10-car crash closes part of the M1 for hours - but no one was seriously injured

A section of the M1 in Yorkshire was closed in the early hours of this morning due to a crash which involved 10 cars.

The crash was reported to police at around 5.45am between junction 32 and 33, near Rotherham heading northbound.

Highways England initially said four cars had been involved in the incident, but South Yorkshire Police later confirmed there had been 10 cars affected.

The motorway was completely closed for around a hour, with lanes one, two and three remaining closed until after 8am while traffic officers cleared up the debris.

Traffic was slow moving as it passed the incident, but there were no major delays.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police confirmed there had been no serious injuries sustained in the crash.

The motorway fully reopened at around 8.15am.
