Customers advised not to travel from Sheffield station after freight train comes off track overnight

Customers are being advised not to travel from Sheffield station after a freight train came off the track overnight - with some Leeds routes affected.

The train derailed at around 3am on Wednesday (November 11).

No other trains were involved, Northern confirmed.

There will be no services in and out of Sheffield until further notice.

Customers are advised not to travel or to seek alternative transport options.

Northern said it is working to put alternative road replacement transport in place.

The following routes are affected and trains may be cancelled, start, or terminate at different stations or run with delays:

Leeds - Nottingham

Leeds - Sheffield via Barnsley

Leeds - Sheffield via Moorthorpe

Sheffield - Huddersfield

Sheffield - Lincoln

Sheffield - Scarborough

Sheffield - Doncaster

Sheffield - York

Sheffield - Manchester

Northern customers may use their tickets on the Supertram between Sheffield and Meadowhall / Parkgate as well as on any reasonable alternative route, it was confirmed.
