Huge blaze engulfs Hull power station

AN electricity substation is on fire near Hull, sending huge clouds of smoke over the city.

The Creyke Beck station between Cottingham and Dunswell erupted in an orange ball of flames and a sent cloud of smoke that could be seen as far away as Beverley.

Six fire engines are at the scene and nearby roads are closed, but National Grid said there were no casualties and that electricity supplies were not affected.

However, there is heavy traffic in the area.

A spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue said: “We have six engines at the scene from Calvert Lane, Clough Road, central Hull, Bransholme and Brough.

“We are monitoring the situation. Crews are still at work tackling the flames.”
