Kirkstall Road, Leeds, closed as woman dies after being hit by car

A WOMAN has died after being knocked down on one of Leeds’s main commuter routes.

The 23-year-old was walking across Kirkstall Road when she was hit by a red Vauxhall Astra on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene – close to Arla Foods factory – at about 11.50am.

The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where she was confirmed dead a short time later.

The 26-year-old driver of the car, which ended up on its roof on the central reservation, was taken to hospital but was not believed to be seriously injured.

The scene was being examined and the road remained closed in both directions on Wednesday afternoon.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Sergeant Carl Quinn, of West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or the circumstances leading up to it.”
