M1 collision: Northbound carriageway closed in West Yorkshire after serious rush hour crash

The M1 northbound has been closed near Leeds this morning after a serious collision.

National Highways said: "The M1 in West Yorkshire is closed northbound between J42 (M62) and J44 (Leeds) due to a collision.

"All emergency services are in attendance. National Highways traffic officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management."

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called to the M1 northbound at junction 42 at 07.51 this morning to a report of a collision involving a HGV and several cars.

"The incident caused a closure of the carriageway while emergency services checked drivers and dealt with the incident.

"The northbound carriageway was re-opened at 8.46am."

Northbound traffic is being diverted via the hollow circle diversion symbol

Exit the M1 at J42 (Lofthouse Interchange) and proceed to the end of the slip road.

At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the M62 (Eastbound) and proceed along this road for approx. 2 miles to the junction with the M62 J30.

At the junction, exit the M62 at J30 and proceed to the end of the slip road.

At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A642 and proceed along this road for approx. 1 mile to the roundabout with the A639.

At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A639 and proceed along this road for approx. 2 miles to re-join the M1 at J44.
