New traffic calming measures proposed for Skelmanthorpe roads

Kirklees Council has announced plans to introduce a series of traffic calming measures on Commercial Road and Huddersfield Road in Skelmanthorpe as part of efforts to improve road safety in the area.

The proposals, made under the Highways Act 1980, include the installation of seven traffic calming features consisting of speed cushions and flat-top road humps at various points along the two roads.

On Huddersfield Road, three speed cushions are proposed between house numbers 98 and 100, followed by four flat-top road humps located between properties 80 and 82, 64 and 66, near numbers 48a and 52, and near numbers 36 and 38. The humps will vary in length but will all be 75mm high and feature tapered ramps designed to slow traffic.

On Commercial Road, one flat-top road hump is planned near house number 26, along with a set of two speed cushions positioned between house numbers 46 and 48.

Kirklees Council says the measures are intended to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for residents, pedestrians and other road users.

Plans showing the precise locations and dimensions of the proposed traffic calming features, along with statements explaining the reasons for the scheme, are available to view online via the council’s traffic regulation website or by contacting the council’s highways team by email.
