Overnight closures on M1 in Leeds as four months of roadworks begin

Overnight closures are planned on the M1 in Leeds as part of a junction upgrade.

Highways England is installing an extra lane on the northbound exit slip road at junction 47 near Garforth.

This is to improve safety and congestion for drivers.

Highways England project manager Steve Bishop said: "This project will help to ease congestion during busy periods at this junction. We will also be carrying out additional maintenance work such as resurfacing and lining to improve safety.

"To do this safely we will have to occasionally close the road overnight. I want to thank drivers for their patience while we carry out these vital improvements."

Work starts on Monday, June 29 overnight between 8pm and 6am.

Any closures will be signed in advance and a diversion will be in place.

The scheme is expected to take around four months to complete.
