Saltaire village car park closed ahead of work on college building
A car park in the centre of Saltaire has been closed ahead of work to build a new college building.
The Caroline Street car park will be the home of a new Shipley College building that is being partly funded through the Shipley Towns Fund. Construction is expected to start early next month.
The project has proved controversial, with many residents claiming a new building would be inappropriate in the centre of a World Heritage Site.

There have also been questions around the site – which is owned by Bradford Council and has operated as a pay and display car park – being given to Shipley College as part of a “nil value” land transfer.
Responding to a query about the imminent closure of the car park, a Bradford Council spokesperson said: “The sale of Caroline Street car park to Shipley College is due to complete this week so will no longer be Council property.
“The car park is closed ready for vacant possession for works to take place.
“Visitors can use Exhibition Road car park as an alternative and residents can use the residential on-street parking spaces.”
As well as being used by Shipley College, the building will also be the new home of the Saltaire Collection.
