Teenage girl in dramatic night-time river rescue

A teenage girl was rescued from a York river in the early hours of today after a passer-by heard her screaming for help.

A teenage girl was among two people rescued from the River Foss at 1.20am yesterday after a passer-by heard screaming.

The teenager and a second person were dragged out of the freezing River Foss near Eboracum Way after a member of the public rang the emergency services.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire Service said they had been pulled to safety by Yorkshire Water Rescue Team.

They were both taken to York District Hospital suffering from hypothermia.
