The fire is believed to have started at around 4am on Sunday.

Specialist fire investigation officers have said they are working with police to ascertain the cause of the blaze.

In a statement, Derbyshire’s Assistant Chief Fire Officer Gavin Tomlinson said the deaths had had a huge impact on the fire and rescue service.

“The fire service works tirelessly to ensure the safety of everyone in the community and for firefighters who worked in exceptionally difficult conditions to try and rescue the deceased, it is extremely difficult to accept this tragic loss of life,” Mr Tomlinson said.
