Yorkshire road that links village with M62 junction branded 'dangerous' because it has so many potholes
Gilead Road is the main road running through Longwood in Huddersfield, linking the village with areas such as Paddock and back towards the M62 junction at Outlane.
The road is said to be a problem area due to its uneven surface and potholes, leaving some fearing that there may be an accident.

“We’re stuck. There’s one road in and one road out. For the sake of car tyres and suspension, I’m going the long way around and it’s adding about 10 minutes.
“I’ve driven around a lot and it’s really bad. It’s one of the most dangerous.”
One particularly troublesome area is a patch of road in between the Dusty Miller pub and Dodlee Road. The road surface is worn and patchy with some large potholes.

“It’s impossible to drive safely on your side of the road anymore, cars have to weave up the road trying to avoid the potholes. It really has become a safety issue.”
The resident told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that they had reported the issue to the council who said they were ‘aware’ of it, but that no action was taken at the time.
A spokesperson for Kirklees Council said: “Kirklees Council has a thorough highways inspection programme, with scheduled safety inspections undertaken on a monthly, three monthly, six monthly or 12-monthly basis by Highways Asset Maintenance Technicians.
