TV sports pundit charged over motorway crash

Former England footballer Paul Merson has been summonsed to appear in court to face a charge of driving with excess alcohol following a motorway crash.

The 43-year-old pundit was arrested after his Mercedes collided with a lorry registered to the Ministry of Defence in the early hours of October 12.

Merson later claimed he had fallen asleep behind the wheel before colliding with the central reservation at 3.12am.
