The Met Office yesterday issued a yellow weather warning, saying heavy downpours were expected across North and East Yorkshire from this morning.

A spokesman said: “The frontal zone bringing rain to eastern England on Tuesday will move northwards on Tuesday night to become slow-moving across north east England during Wednesday. Rainfall accumulations of over 30mm in places may cause some minor flooding from rivers or from surface water.”

Meteo Group forecaster Gareth Harvey said: “An area of prolonged rain is moving up over the eastern region and it’s not going to shift until Wednesday night.”
