Little people make voices heard

A protest with a difference was held outside Parliament when thousands of “mini marchers” joined a fairtrade campaign.

The Fairtrade Foundation has urged celebrities and members of the public to create a personalised cardboard figure of themselves to demonstrate their backing for trade justice.

The figures were lined up opposite Parliament as part of a campaign by the foundation for the Government
to put smallholder farmers at the heart of its trade
policy.

More than 5,000 people have signed an online petition, to go to Prime Minister David Cameron on World Fair Trade Day in May, ahead of the next meeting of G8 countries.

Cheryl McGechie of the Fairtrade Foundation said: “Our march on Parliament brings together all of our supporters in an engaging way to show they care about combating unfair trade practices.”
