'˜Naked villainy' as strip club proposed near grave of Richard III

A winter of discontent was blowing last night over plans to open a strip club a few hundred yards from the grave of the last King of the House of York.

Jagdeep Narll has sent an application to the council to open a “sexual entertainment venue” on Millstone Lane in Leicester, a few hundred yards from the cathedral which is now the resting place of Richard III.

And despite Shakespeare’s reference to the king’s “naked villainy”, the venue has been branded “particularly unsuitable” by a city councillor.

“It is the resting place of a former King of England,” said Patrick Kitterick, who also noted that it was “not a deserted area of town any more” and a number of nurseries were nearby.

It is less than three years since Leicester marked Richard’s reburial with a 21-gun salute, following the discovery of his remains beneath a car park.

The city had resisted calls to re-inter the king at York Minster.
